Casting Mountains to the Sea: 5 steps on managing our life challenges
Do you have a mountain that is clogging your life wheel? Do you have challenges that are almost eating you up? Well, we all. The good news is that we can cast those mountains into the sea.
At one point in time or another, we all have faced one problem or the other, a big challenge, major setback or severe disappointment. At times these challenges cripple us from pushing further with our career and life goals. Other times, they lead us into acts which ordinarily, we wouldn’t have done. Some run into depression, others seek solace in addictive behaviours, while those who feel completely defeated in life choose suicide.
Indeed, life is not a bed of roses. Problem free life is an illusion and we cannot run away from problems. So what do we do in the face of life-challenges? We have to learn a way of handling these headaches in life and moving our mountains into the sea. Here, we consider a few ways of handling our life challenges when it comes tumbling our vision down.
Steps on Managing Life Challenges
Focus on Focal Point
Someone has an examination facing him. Instead of putting his attention in the present challenges at hand, he goes about partying around with the friends, visiting people and engaging in all sorts of distraction with the hope that those distractions can wish way the examination at hand.
When are faced with a challenge, it is good if we keep focussing on the challenge and how to surmount it. Distractors, like alcohol intake, sex, drugs and all sorts of distraction cannot remove the fact that there is a challenge in front of us which we must face. The best option for us at that point in time is to focus on the challenge at hand.
Have an Alternative
Do not put all your eggs in one basket is a common adage. Thus, most successful people have a second option in all their plans, so that, if option A doesn’t work, option B will be brought forward. The key is to have the courage and the will to let go of a plan that does not work out. Many successful business tycoons today ventured into a number of businesses before they finally found one that gave them the success they needed. Do not waste time building on a shaky foundation because you think you have already spent a long time at the foundation. Have the courage to look out for your second option.
Some people have this Murphy’s philosophy of life that whatever can go wrong will go wrong. They go about seeing negativities in every event of life, recounting how life has been so unfair to them. Such a pessimistic point of view makes one to also see a mountain where there is a molehill. Instead of this philosophy of life, one should get real. know that the positive can happen also. Be optimistic about life, yet have the knowledge that things can go wrong. Not that they will always go wrong.
Apply Mustard Seed Faith
Jesus teaches that if our faith can be as small as mustard seed, we can command a mountain to be cast into the sea and it will. Having faith is what we all possess, irrespective of religion. However, as Christians, our faith is in Jesus who has given us the power to seek and find, to ask and believe that our prayers are heard. We believe that God who feeds the birds of the air, beasts of the wild, and cloth the flowers of the field can do even much more for us.
As much as possible, we should ignite this power of faith in us, and be positive that we have a loving father who cares for us. We might have our questions and why-this-and-that-issues around circumstances of lives. These should not nullify our faith. The most important is to have faith – a tool that moves mountains.
Give a Helping Hand
Sometimes when we are faced with challenges, we feel that we cannot help others. We feel that we have no energy left to do good deeds. That should not be so. Sometimes in life, when we try to help others, we find help ourselves. We remember the story of Abraham who was facing the challenge of barrenness with his wife. While in the heat of the day, he saw three men who were travelling. With a kind heart, he invited them to have cold water and a mussel of bread to have the energy to continue their journey. The three men turned out to be angels and they brought to him a message that in a year time, he would have a son. That was both shocking and funny for Abraham and Sarah that they laughed and wondered if these men were serious.
It worked out from Abraham that by helping others, he solved his own problem. Sometimes life can be that way. When we render help to others, we get the help we have so much needed.
Facing challenging in life is something we cannot run away from in life. We have to accept it and allow it to build us up. When we get uncomfortable and face the challenge that is facing us, it helps our body to adjust, resist fear and know that we are more capable than we think. You know that feeling of “thank God I made it” we get when we overcome a challenge. Again, facing a challenge and overcoming it gives us the courage to face more challenges. It kills that negative voice in our mind that tells us that we cannot make it, that gives us hundreds of reasons why we will not succeed. Another reason why we must face our challenge and overcome it is because of those who think that we will never do well in life. Embarrass your haters with your success. That is the best revenge.
In sum, remember that there are mountains here and there on our path. We have to stand up and cast them into the sea. We cannot submit to weakness and let these challenges drown us. Yes, you can cast that mountain into the sea.
