When Your Little Hut goes in Flames
The only survivor of a shipwreck was washed up on a small uninhabited island. He prayed fervently to God to rescue him. Day and night he looked around for help in such a lonely place. No help was forthcoming. He then decided to settle there and manage life how he has found it.
Determined, he picked up woods and built a little hut to protect himself from cool and harmful animals, and to store some property he has gathered so far.
One day, after scavenging for food, he arrived home to find his small hut in flames, with everything therein ablaze, smoke rolling up to the sky. He felt downcasted that the worst has happened to him and everything was lost. In grief and anger, he cried out, “God! How could you have allowed this?” He wept bitterly.
Early the next day, he was awakened by the sound of a ship approaching the island. It had come to rescue him! “How did you know I was here”, he asked his rescuers. “We saw your smoke signal”, they replied him.
So many of us can relate to this type of episode in our own life experiences. Sometimes we are lost in grief and disbelief because the little hut we have built as our only hope has even got burnt. At such a time, it is easy to feel discouraged. Some of us might even go into depression and despair. We might begin to question God, to lose our faith and to seek alternative evil ways and try all sorts of things to help ourselves.
Don’t give up! At such a dark moment in your life, you only need to realize that God is still at work in you. He has not finished with you yet. Why then do you want to give up before your time?
Keep the following in mind:
Reading through the scriptures can be of immense help to you at such time. Remember Daniel in Lion’s den, Shedrack Mesharka and Abednego in the heart of fire, Peter, Paul and Silas in jail. At the appointed time, God delivered them from the hands of their captors. Like I always tell my friends, “faith on till you make it”.
In all situations, give praise to God. No matter how broken and finished you might be, do not stop praising God. Your sacrifice of praise shall be the smoke that will summon the power of God over that situation.
Lk 18:1 tells us that we ought always to pray and not lose heart. Prayer is the master key in every situation. When we are in such a pitiable situation, let us not just talk about it and cry over it, let us importantly pray about it.
The temptation to be alone will be there when you are facing your trials. The devil will try to make you feel that no brother or sister is ready to help you. Do not believe the devil. Cry out for help. Open up to members of your faith community and family, God can use anyone to render help to you in that situation.
You attitude when you in are crises matters a lot. A lot of persons become negative, aggressive and jealous of other people’s success. Resist such a temptation. If God blesses your neighbour, thank God, because it means that God is in your neighbourhood. Keep a positive attitude and be optimistic that your deliverer shall rescue you. You shall soar with a positive attitude.
The next time your little hut seems to be burning to ashes, stand firm. It might just be a smoke signal that summons the Divine visitation.
